About The Trust

History

The Wilson Memorial Trust was founded in 2001 by Steyning residents Ted and Margaret Wilson.

Ted retired from industry at the age of 50 and gave his time to community work in Steyning and to teaching tennis in West Sussex.  He chaired the Patient Participation Group for many years and edited ‘Good Health’, the PPG magazine. He was very involved in the planning of the new Health Centre. He wanted the new building to have extra space to allow for wider health provision, and his persistence enabled this to happen.

Ted died in 2011, and the couple left the majority of their estate to the Wilson Memorial Trust.

Charitable Aims and Objectives of the Trust

1. The prevention and relief of physical and mental sickness and disability, and the preservation, protection and promotion of mental and physical health and well-being, including the provision of equipment, facilities and services which supplement and support but which are not contracted to be provided by the local health authority or any other part of the National Health Sservice.

2. The advancement of education, particularly relating to the benefits of good health and prevention of sickness.

3. The support of such other charitable causes as the trustees think fit. The “Area of benefit” shall mean all that area served by the Steyning Health Centre.
