Guidance Notes for your Application
Discuss your project
It may be helpful to talk to us about your application before completing the form. If you would like to discuss a potential application with one or two of the trustees please email us on jvyfbazrzbevnygehfg@tznvy.pbz. We can visit the site, advise on the approach to take and suggest details that the trustees may want to know. Following the discussion we will need a completed application form in order to make a formal decision on a grant with the other trustees.
Geographical area
We welcome applications from organisations covering the Steyning area. Our grants are made to benefit residents within the catchment area of Steyning Medical Practice. This includes Steyning, Upper Beeding, Bramber, Ashurst, Washington and Ashington.

We will consider giving a relative proportion of a grant to organisations which cover a larger area.
Filling in the form
Grants are made to projects which further the aims of the Wilson Memorial Trust to benefit the health and wellbeing of residents in the Steyning area. You need to make clear how your project will do this.
The formal aims are as follows:
- The prevention and relief of physical and mental sickness and disability, and the preservation, protection and promotion of mental and physical health and well-being, including the provision of equipment, facilities and services which supplement and support but which are not contracted to be provided by the local health authority or any other part of the national health service;
- The advancement of education, particularly relating to the benefits of good health and prevention of sickness;
As you can see grants are not made toward services or equipment which should already be provided by the NHS or Local Authority.
Criteria when assessing a grant
The trustees
- ensure that the grant furthers the charitable objects of WMT
- check that the amount is reasonable
- assess whether funds have been applied for, raised or provided from other sources
- compare with past grants
- consider how the success of the grant will be monitored and fed back
- assess the accounts and viability of the organisation
We look favourably on applications where funds have also been raised from other sources.
